How did you come up with that?

Songs in the Spirit of Legends — The Music DoctorsKings & Queens Edition, Vol. 1 — The Music Doctors
We remember. We honor.

I'm Sofie, Head Nurse at The Music Doctors, and I'd like to tell you how a very personal idea of René's grew into Songs in the Spirit of Legends. In 2025 and 2026, we said goodbye to so many musical legends. Bonnie Tyler, Neil Sedaka, Jimmy Cliff, Dolly Parton, and sadly, many more. Of course, losing artists is nothing new. But for René, these losses felt particularly close to home. Perhaps because their music has been woven into his own life for so long.

Around that time, he had started making music with the help of AI. At The Music Doctors, we mainly use Suno. My role was to help him turn the sounds he heard in his head into clearer guidance, so he could steer Suno towards what he was looking for.

And that led him to a question. How do you honor a musical hero without repeating what already exists?

A tribute, not a cover

He didn't want covers. The originals are already there. He wanted to create new songs that carried something of the artist who inspired them.

That meant more than mentioning a name in the lyrics. The sound had to tell the story too. Instruments, rhythm, the character of the voice, the atmosphere of the production. A new composition with a familiar musical feeling.

Bonnie Tyler and an imagined reply

One tribute that helped us shape this approach was the one for Bonnie Tyler. Our musical reference was It's a Heartache.

René imagined a male singer paying tribute in the verses, and then, in the chorus, a rough-edged female voice answering, as if Bonnie could reply from the other side. An imagined conversation, not a real recording or contribution from her.

Musically, we looked for that late '70s feel: country rock and pop, warm production, natural instruments, a strong band groove, emotion without the big, dramatic production of her later rock ballads. The female vocal color mattered. That husky edge.

René worked on the lyrics, asked me to help refine them, and I helped turn our ideas into a prompt for Suno.

If that word is new to you, a prompt is simply a description of what you want to create: tempo, instruments, genre, vocals, overall sound.

And yes, we talked through all of that, sometimes many times over. He listened to each version, said what worked and what didn't, and chose what to develop further. On August 16th, 2026, he chose the final version of The Heartache Sings, Ode to Bonnie Tyler..

From individual tributes to an album series

From there, the project grew into Songs in the Spirit of Legends, a series of albums with new songs in tribute to musical heroes and heroines.

The first album came out on September 18th, 2026. It includes nine tributes, Bonnie Tyler, Neil Sedaka, Jimmy Cliff, and a joint tribute to Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack.

Kings and queens

Then on August 25th, 2026, when Dolly Parton died, she inspired René to create a special edition within the series.

Dolly, the Queen of Country. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock and Roll. Sam Cooke, the King of Soul. Those titles gave him a wonderful starting point for a new selection. And that's how Songs in the Spirit of Legends: Kings and Queens Edition, Volume One took shape.

Released on October 2nd, 2026, it also contains nine tracks.

By then, we were looking beyond the artists we had lost recently. We were honoring legends whose influence has been living on for much longer.

Getting the sound right

René and I certainly had work to do. Every song needed attention, patience, and care. This was never about typing an artist's name and keeping the first result.

We listened, adjusted, and tried again. Sometimes we went back to the original idea because a version sounded good but didn't bring that artist's world to mind.

Take The Road Still Knows Your Name, our tribute to Chris Rea. The lyrics include little references to his musical world, almost like Easter eggs. But even without them, René wanted the atmosphere and sound to suggest Chris Rea. He feels we captured that well.

With the Bonnie Tyler tribute, it was especially the character of the female voice that came close to what he imagined.

But that's his judgment. What we'd really like to know is whether you hear that connection too.

These are new productions by The Music Doctors with music and vocals created using AI. They are not new performances by the original artists. René sets the direction, works on the lyrics, gives the musical guidance, and makes the final selection. I help him develop and refine those ideas.

The producers deserve a tribute too

The news of Billy Freeman's death in 2025 gave René something to think about.

Working as Billy April, he and Vince Garcia formed the original Drizabone production duo.

Inspired by their song Real Love, we created Real Love Never Dies (Ode to Billy April Freeman). That tribute was released as a single on September 25th, 2026.

For The Producers Edition, we are now considering names such as Quincy Jones, Phil Spector, and Avicii. The focus is on distinctive production styles and musical influence, the creative choices behind the sound as well as the voice in front of the microphone.

Have a listen

And that's how one musical idea grew into a series René continues to work on with so much pleasure and care.

We don't want to replace any of these artists. Their music doesn't need to be reinvented. We want to keep something alive of what makes their music so special to us.

You can find the albums and singles through the music page on our website. Have a listen, and let us know what you think. Can you hear the influences? Which song speaks to you? We'd love to know.
